Jill Parker - MCSP PDF Print

jill_parker.jpgAfter qualifying as a physiotherapist, Jill Parker did a rotational post in the N.H.S. and then ran a Geriatric Rehabilitation Unit before leaving to have children. For the next few years she worked part time in Private Practice and then ran the In Patient Physiotherapy Service at The Wolverhampton Nuffield Hospital on a self-employed basis.

When Company policy changed and all physiotherapists became directly employed by the company, she became the Physiotherapy Manager for both In and Out Patients. During this time she developed the service obtaining a three hundred per cent growth in the business over three years. During this time, she was also a Manual Handling Trainer, did ergonomic risk assessments, and qualified to treat patients with acupuncture. She also did a basic Reki course, became the Physiotherapist on the Corporate Advancing Practice Group and took part in research on Pre Assessment Clinics and the Reduction of Pressure Sores.

On a more lighthearted note she worked as a physiotherapist on The B.T. Global Challenge and the Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race, which was great fun!

During her time with Nuffield Hospitals she also held a part time Marketing Contract, mainly liasing with G.P.s, organising events, writing articles for the press, and promoting new consultants. After a short spell at Shrewsbury and then at North Staffs Nuffield Hospital she did some teaching and then worked for R.T.A. in Brighton setting up their Physiotherapy referral system for people involved in road traffic accidents. This she continues to do on a consultancy basis.

In 2001 she became The Commercial Physiotherapy Manager at The Apley Clinic at The Princess Royal Hospital at Telford where she set up a Private Physiotherapy Clinic within the N.H.S. This may appear a contradiction in terms but she is employed, with other staff, by the N.H.S. to treat private patients, with all revenue raised going back into the N.H.S. for the benefit of all.

This service has developed rapidly over the last four years and in fact it was one of her patients who invented the Orthoglide!

Outside work she is a magistrate, a school governor, a soroptamist, a member of a local drama group and is also involved in her local Church. All this keeps her very busy with never a dull moment, but she is always looking for new challenges, as she says life is too short to stand still!
