 Dr. Robert Pickard is a specialist urologist in the field of reconstruction. This involves the assessment of patients with functional and structural problems within the lower urinary tract. He runs a weekly outpatient clinic in conjunction with specialist nurses and junior medical staff, as well as a weekly urodynamic investigation session.
Most of the patients he sees are suffering from lower urinary tract or sexual problems resulting from neurological or degenerative diseases causing distressing symptoms affecting their quality of life. Their assessment usually requires a combination of outpatient consultations and investigations. Once the problem and its effect on the individual have been defined, Dr. Pickard can then assess the options for improving the situation with a view to putting together a management plan. He is able to offer the full range of treatments from simple interventions to major surgery. The surgical procedures that he specialises in are bladder augmentation or replacement, urethral augmentation or replacement and penile reconstructive surgery.
He currently has 1.5 operating sessions each week at the Freeman Hospital and typically performs 2 major and 7 minor/intermediate procedures each fortnight. |
